Plants are held in by wire wrapped balcony. If something were to happen to the plants they can be easily switched out.
These plants are alive. They need love. They like to be kept indoors, in artificial light or indirect sun light. They don’t like it too hot, they don’t like it too cold. They do like a window light and to be lightly spritz with water every week or every other week. It is the responsibility of their new parent (the buyer) to keep them alive and happy.
How long can they live? With the right care I have had some clients keep their Air Plant Pets Earrings going on three years.
You can also give them a light trim when needed.
The biggest killer of these plant babies is over watering.
Air Plant Care Tips
💧 Watering • Ionantha Rubras. Air Plants can survive long periods of time with little to no water. But, they will not thrive in this environment. Eventually they will die off without enough water. Lush Lobes recommends you soak your Rubra Ionantha Air Plants for 10 minutes once a week. In the winter only spray once or twice a week. Overwatering is a big killer of these plants. DO NOT use tap water without letting it sit out for at least 4 hours to let the chlorine evaporate. This also helps ensure the water is room temperature, which keeps your plants from going into shock. When removing them from the water, shake them gently to remove excess water; then place the air plants in a well-ventilated area to dry. Every Airplant has different care. These air plants breathe through their leaves, so you must make sure they have space to dry :). If you live in a more humid area, dunking time might be less, or only choose to spray once or twice a week with a small spray bottle.
You can keep the plant in the birch wood earring frame while you dunk for 10 minutes. make sure to gently shake off access water and to hang to dry.
Ionantha Rubra are closely related to Ionantha Guatemala but have softer leaves and less trichomes. Trichomes are very tiny scales on the leaves that give them a white or silvery look. The trichomes help the leaves hold moisture so it can be absorbed. These are perfect for small seashells, terrariums under 5 inches, cork bark, driftwood and any other medium. They are very hardy and average about 2 inches tall. They will grow as large as 3 to 4 inches and multiply by producing "pups" from their base. They will give you wonderful blooms 2 to 3 times per year.
☀️ Temperature & Lighting • It is recommended to keep air plants in an area where they receive a moderate amount of indirect sunlight or artificial home/office lighting. Air plants should be kept 6 inches to 3 feet away from artificial light. Air plants are quite hardy and can thrive in temperatures ranging from 50° to 90°F.
